The site of Wade Park has significance to the sporting history of Orange. The site was marked “Reserved for Cricket” on the 1866 plan of Orange. The site has been used for a variety of sports ever since, including cricket, rugby union, rugby league, greyhound racing, tennis and cycling. Wade Park is currently viewed as Orange’s main sporting venue with night lighting and a 990-seat grandstand. Wade Park is close to the major Southern green belt of the Blackman’s Swamp Creek Park System and the mature trees that border Wade Park form a visual link between the two.
