Statement of Significance

The vista along Byng Street is signified by the offset of the Holy Trinity Church spire in the distance. The avenue of Elms aligning Byng Street define the view and emphasise the characteristic spire which can be seen from numerous points within the city and used as a visual clue. The street trees define the view, however, the church spire is a landscape feature which is iconic within the CBD.

Statement of Significance

The vista along Byng Street is terminated by the quaint “gatehouse” building in Duntryleague. The avenue of Oak and Elm trees aligning Byng Street are a visual extension of the Duntryleague landscape thereby enhancing the significance of the vista. The grandeur of the street trees is reinforced by the width of the road pavement and the small gatehouse building emphasises the single point perspective.
